Jill R. Schmidtke, a native of Norfolk, Virginia and former Air Force Veteran, graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2000 and  began her career in criminal law at the Portsmouth Commonwealth Attorney’s Office.  In 2001 she left the Commonwealth Attorney’s office and entered private practice focusing on both Family Law and Criminal Defense.  In an effort to focus solely on criminal law she returned to criminal prosecution at the Newport News Commonwealth Attorney’s Office for the next three years.  In 2006, she joined the Newport News Public Defender’s Office and served as it’s Chief Deputy Public Defender.  In 2013, she accepted the position of the Public Defender for the City of Hampton, Virginia.  In addition to supervision of the daily operations of the Hampton Public Defender’s office (supervising 17 attorneys and various support staff members) she also sat on the Hampton Drug Court Board and helped to establish the first Hampton Veteran’s Court specializing in helping Veteran’s within the Legal Justice System.  While with the Indigent Defense Commission she participated in the training of new Attorneys in their “Boot Camp” program.  Mrs. Schmidtke began working at Sacks & Sacks in the summer of 2017 working directly with Andrew on high profile criminal cases. She has been dedicated to and specialized in the practice of criminal defense for the last 14 years.
